St Ives railway station is located right behind Porthminster beach and is part of the St Ives branch line. Starting at St Erth, the journey has the most amazing views across Porthkidney Sands and Carbis Bay along the way. A “must do” during your visit to St Ives.

Porthminster beach is located at the entrance to St Ives, if you arrive by train along the scenic branch line it’s the first thing to greet you! With St Ives being so compact, you’re always near everything too and it’s just a short walk down to the bustling town centre through the narrow higgledy piggledy streets.
There’s plenty to do on Porthminster beach with a wide range of activities and facilities on offer. A mini golf course is great fun for the little ones and a water sports centre is on hand offering paddleboarding and kayaking for the adrenalin junkies. For a more relaxed day by the sea theres also deck chairs and beach huts available to hire.
You won’t need to travel far for lunch as there’s not one but two lovely takeaways, a licensed bar, ice cream parlour and did we mention the award winning beach cafe / restaurant? All of these are right on the sand too. Cocktails anyone?
If you feel like exploring, the South West Coast Path connects Porthminster beach to neighbouring Carbis Bay, providing spectacular views along the way. At low tide you can also walk across the fresh wet sand to Harbour beach. Perfect. Porthminster beach has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag status in 2016 for it’s cleanliness and excellent water quality.
Dogs are banned on Porthminster beach between 15th May – 30th September, 10am-6pm.
Car Parking
A large car park overlooks Porthminster beach, but can get extremely busy during the summer months. A popular park & ride scheme operates from nearby Lelant Saltings train station, where you can enjoy the scenic branch line into St Ives.
